about 14 hours of DDR.

i'm frelling tired, and i have to get up early to get ready for the winter perc rehearsal tomorrow, so this might be brief and mangled a bit.

The DDR tourney was so much fun. It was great to meet new people - a lot of standard tourney players - and also to see friends from portland and ashland and such for a day.

Scott interviewed me around 11:00, and he didn't do a great job since i was the first one. He's still a high school kid, and not one that thinks ahead a lot or understands how the little details matter when trying to do a documentary. i was pretty much the "test" person, and my interview only lasted about twenty minutes or so. i think i mumbled a lot - i'm not sure how much footage of mine he can use, but oh well.

I went back to the EMU around 11:45 and people were warming up. There were a *lot* of people playing in the standard tourney, so i only got to play two or three matches before the tourney started at 13:15 or so.

I qualified third in the standard tourney even though i didn't score all that well (shouldn't have done 321 Stars). :p I think i might have played two matches against people that i easily beat before i had to go up against Carl (who had placed second). He ended up beating me, putting me on the loser's bracket, but i threaded my way through the loser's bracket to make it back towards the top. I think it was Dylan that almost beat me before semi-finals, (he's getting really good really fast), and then i had to face Carl again in the semi-final, but this time i won. I think that he's a better PAer than me on easier tunes, but i'm the better PAer on the harder tunes.

at some point in my string of matches, i SDGed a new song on heavy, but i don't remember what it was. It might have been Be Lovin'. *shrug* i really *should* keep better track of my single scores, but i'm too lazy to do it right now.

Anyway, i made it to the finals, and I played against josh, and of course he won, but i still got second place and for the first time in a tourney turned a profit. $3, but a profit nonetheless.

In between matches, i also played a bunch of ping-pong with Jeff, Sumner, Trunks, Carl, and a few other people. That was fun too. What's strange is that I think Josh is a better ping-pong player than Jeff, but it was harder for me to beat Jeff than Josh. I think it has to do with our stylistic play - as much as Jeff was swooning over my heavy spin, he was pretty good at giving me disorienting spin too, especially with his serve, and i didn't get enough time to figure out how to counter it. Josh was much less of a spin player vs. just a speed player, and i handle that stuff more easily.

at some point, rachel stopped by to watch me play - right around the finals. yay, rachel. that made me incredibly happy. Since there was a dinner break, we went out to eat at the glenwood, and i got some bad cannoli for dessert from Napoli. it was a very nice highlight of the day.

The other highlights included meeting Naima. I didn't get to talk to her much, but she has an awesome aura.

The heavy tourney started at 9pm - the schedule changed to accomodate for mer and angelo. i didn't do too great in it, but i didn't expect to, and it was still just fun to do. I lost my first match against Wes, won my second match against Tyson, and lost my third match against Angelo.

The final match ended around 01:30. It was stephen against angelo, and they had a good set.

Andre also had the chance to film me playing BIMP with one foot, but we're probably going to do it again from a few different camera angles and just a few different attempts. I passed it, but i didn't do that well on it - i almost failed it. My concentration was flimsy because i was tired from such a long day with heavy DDR playing and only one and a half meals. I need to practice it more, but it's hard to justify spending a dollar and working on that sort of trick. I might have to go to the ATAM again to do it, since tyler's machine is still on JP. I feel kind of bad for not going there more often lately - i want to help give tyler a profit, but it's a bit out of the way, and i'm a bit discouraged by the current aura i get from mike there concerning the whole ITG thing.

anyway. time for bed. i'm losing focus, it's late, and i still plan on waking up around 8:30-9:00 to get some stuff done. Maybe i'll push it back to 9:30.

Glad the tourney went well. And Naima is one of my favorite people ever, it's cool that you got to meet her, too.

Re:
*laughs*

i didn't mind coming in second. it was a no-brainer that josh was going to win it, as far as i'm concerned.

I think it would have been better if he didn't enter if only because i think a final match between me and carl would have been more exciting. We're much more evenly matched whereas josh is just heads above us.

I take it Stephen won, correct? Anyway-thank you so so so much for letting us start at 9. I seriously couldn't care less if I participated in it or not, but then there's Ang who of course...you know :p Anyway, I'm glad you could stay for the tourney, too, and congrats in the standard!

Re:
stephen did win.

yeah... in one way, starting at 9 was probably better because it gave me a chance to recover and chill out before having to do heavy, but in another way it sucked because since the tourney didn't end until 01:30, i really *didn't* get the work done that i had planned, so i had to get up early today to do it. but whatever. it was good times.

No bar tourneys are fun. i think we should have more of 'em.
