focusing exercises

Since I can't play DDR due to the fact that i'm still recovering from my injury (here's a not-for-the-queasy pic of my foot a couple of thursdays ago), i've been playing a lot more pool as a focus/escape from reality exercise.

On Sunday(?) I went to the EMU to practice, and it was shortly after Bush had given his public speech. I was doing the ten-racks-count-your-points-restart-if-you-miss drill and generally sucking at it (i'm just not consistent enough yet) and a bunch of people were watching CNN on the TV, listening to people doing an analysis on Bush's speech and what not.

marching band/drum corps taught me well in how to focus despite heavy distractions. Somewhere in the back of my brain i heard someone stating how he admired Bush for taking a confident stance, how he seemed very calm and collected and was a great, strong leader. another part of my brain was still reeling from the death of one of my former students. another part of my brain was churning about how much i hate this university, my frustrations with mark, etc. etc.

It's just generally been a time of negative energy, and it's nice that even if that stuff is always present, it's something i discard completely when i'm focused on playing pool or DDR.

Sometimes life is just about pocketing balls, analyzing tangent lines, and lining up the next three shots in your head.

weeeeelllll... whilst trying to save the Damsel in Distress from the Evil Wrong-doers, i did my Flying Ninja KICK! at the wheel of one of their motorcycles, thus slowing down their pursuit...

eh. the real story is a lot more embarrassing. it was a stupid DDR accident.

in between selecting songs, i *thought* i had cleared the metal dance area completely, so i put all of my weight down on that foot expecting it to land on flat surface when i was actually only half off of it. the ankle twisted bad. left me not really able to walk for a couple of days.

don't i always? wow. nice foot. don't know when i've wanted you more. as for practicing pool/ddr as a diversionary practice--it's always nice to have an escape mechanism, especially ones as innocuous and safe as those. oh wait, how did you hurt your ankle again???

anyway, take care of the foot and make sure it's healed before you hurt it again.
