fire alarm, justin post, "no-turn" signals, recent sleep patterns, and fluxing life

i think it might have been two weeks ago when one of the more surreal experiences i've had in a long time happened when rachel and i had our weekly hangout at the springfield mall.

we were eating some mongolian grill yum-ness in the food court area, and the fire alarm went off. It wasn't an obnociously loud sound, but it was a Present Sound, one that no one could ignore, plus there were lights flashing.

*everybody* else in the mall acted as if nothing was happening. It wasn't even that people acknowledged the fire alarm and then decided to ignore it. No one, at least no one we saw, broke stride whatsoever in what they were doing. Food servers kept on serving food. people sitting to eat dinner were still eating dinner. Conversations didn't even pause. People walking continued walking.

we kept on looking around to see if anyone would *ever* eventually react, and it just didn't happen. And the alarm went off for a good... three minutes, maybe.

we were pretty confused and a little freaked out in an amused way. I was waiting for someone to come running from somewhere screaming, "this isn't a false alarm!" and then panic would ensue.

while the alarm was on, we speculated that maybe we were the only ones that could hear it.

and when it finally turned off, i think i was the one that said, "what if it's still happening, but now *we* can't hear it?" we lost our special powers. the Gift has been passed to someone else because we failed in our task to warn everyone.

at one point when we were eating mongolian grill today, i really wanted the fire alarm to go off again. but it didn't. or maybe it *did*, but as far as we were concerned, it didn't. i should have been looking around for people looking around to see if anyone was noticing if a fire alarm was going off.

LOL, that's happened to me before too! I was sitting and eating and the alarm went off... but no one CARED, they kept eating and didn't even bother to look around or anything. It was prety damn funny though...
