email change.

hi all.

the amount of spam i'm getting in my darknote.org email account is getting pretty unmanageable, and the spamming options for it are too strict for my taste, so i'm migrating all of my stuff to a new account. no worries if you forget because i set up a .forward for all of my darknote email to send to my new email automatically.

if anyone has some good gmail tips particularly when it comes to folder management, kick it my way.

new email is [my ljusername] at [that mail host i put in the previous line] dot com.

if i hate the UI of the new email, i may switch it again. i'll let you know.

folder management...
Well, the thing of it is... there's no folders...
Pretty much anything that's new and current is in your inbox... you can add "Tags" to the pieces of mail and then just pull up all the mail with that tag... or you can tag it and archive it - archiving means it goes out of the inbox, but doesn't go away... it's still all searchable - though not readily handy.

I <3 the gmail. The spam suppression is beyond compare, and gchat is handy... if your handy (cell phone) handles java applets, the new gmail app is pretty sweet, much faster than just 'browsing' to it via a mobile device browser...

that's all I've got.

problem is i'm not downloading my email via a client right now, i'm keeping it on the server and checking via pine or webmail. main reason being that i don't check just from home anymore and it makes it easier to keep it on the server if i have to remotely look at archival stuff.

I've found filtering my inbox through gmail does a nice job of cleaning out the tons of spam I get.

personally, I like the tags and being able to put emails across multiple categories rather than copying to multiple folders.

i'm sticking with the gmail interface right now as opposed to using it as a POP mianly because i've recently been using the web interface on my own email as opposed to downloading it to my machine since i now check my email from multiple places and want to be able to reference old stuff. i may go back to a client eventually, but we'll see what happens.
