billion and trillion.

so i had no idea that the number "billion" and the number "trillion" could mean completely different numbers depending on where you lived until maybe two days ago.

a part of me wants to like the "long scale" more than the "short scale" just because the US uses short scale and it's familiar and a part of me would rather like what it is that i'm not used to, but i can't make myself do it in this case, at least not yet. maybe if the concept settles in a little more, i might say, "huh. that makes more sense, actually," but that will get me nowhere since no one uses or has ever used long scale in the US, so it would just end up being miscommunicated. as quirky as some of my habits or preferences may be, i try to avoid miscommunication.

shame really. maybe i should move somewhere where long scale is used. except that then i'd have to learn a foreign language, and i suck at that.

i lead the hard life.
