it's nap time but before i forget i have this to describe about the portland airport.

it's been about five years since i was last there for any reasons and in that time, there are two things new that stuck out at me.

one is that on the drive there, there was a sign pointing towards 82nd street labelled "cell phone waiting area." can someone tell me what the heck this means?

two is that for those that have never been there or have not been there in a while, their parking garage now has some sort of optical "tag" on all of the parking lot spots. it turns green if the spot is empty, red if the spot has a car parked in it. in itself that isn't too extraordinary, but at the beginning of every intersection leading into a parking row, there are these LED screens that tell you not only if there's parking down that row, but how many spots are open in that row, including a special count for handicapped spots.

which for the time i was there wasn't too significant since there were 137 free spots here or 48 spots there, but for times in which the airport is flooded with lots of cars, it saves a lot of time moving up and down the rows to find a spot.

that's it. more later, maybe if i manage to wake up before too long.

Probably same as OAK -- someplace for people to pull up and wait to be summoned by cell phone to the airport.

That would be correct. So people don't have to pay for parking, and don't have to wait at the arrivals curbside.
