$1800 for air.

having been to a few baby showers and generally exposed to more newborns in the past few years, i've discovered how temporary clothes truly are to a young'un fresh out of the womb. Clothes that fit in one month have to get tossed aside after three months have to get tossed aside after six months have to ge tossed aside after one year and so on and so forth until the baby is, oh, say, a teenager.

And after having read the most recent MacWorld, i'm pretty sure that the designers must all have been new fathers and mothers, and maybe against their will, because i can't think of any other people who would think that applying this sort of temporary nature of newborn clothes to a laptop would be a good idea.

Let's look at the facts:

number A: No Firewire port and no ethernet port.
nombre 2: NO REPLACEABLE BATTERY.
number C: 2gb of RAM superglued directly to the motherboard with no ability to swap or upgrade.
numero 4: NO REPLACEABLE BATTERY.
number V: the MacBook uses mini-DVI. The MacBook Pro uses DVI. The MacBook Air uses micro-DVI. way to create different standards for each line of laptop, apple.
letter E: YOU CAN'T REPLACE THE BATTERY.
letter 6: no optical drive. If you want to install software, you need to get an external drive or you need to stick the installer into another computer and use apple's new remote disc access controller. It doesn't work on dvds, so if you want to watch one... you can't.
lucky 7: NO REPLACEABLE BATTERY. Did i mention this? If your battery dies, then you have to send your laptop into the shop and have them replace it. If it's out of warranty, i think it's a $129 labor fee.

as far as i'm concerned, the MacBook Air is just a slightly more sophisticated etch-a-sketch. Except etch-a-sketches will last longer because you don't need to get the batteries replaced by a technician and etch-a-sketches don't cost $1800.

seriously apple? Seriously?

if i ever get a mac that isn't the mac pro or it's equivalent, have Tyler Harding slap me.

the ridiculous thing is that i'm a very strong mac advocate, but as far as i'm concerned, the only macs that are worth their money are the high-end macs, the Mac Pro and the MacBook Pro. The Air looks sleek and sexy, but there's so much that they took out to make it sleek and sexy that it doesn't feel worth it. It's like a laptop with anorexia. It might be slim, but it certainly ain't healthy.

MacBooks are totally worth the money, if not moreso than MBP. I love mine to death.

Also, They install the air batteries for free

okay, i misread the MacWorld article then because i thought that the $129 charge was the installation fee and not the battery.

Still, having to ship your lappy off to get a battery replacement as opposed to being able to do it yourself is pretty silly.
