tip (x-posted to 573

so i do this thing on all restaurant transactions where the tip amount i put on the tab will make the dollars and cents add up to the same number ($24.24, $16.16, etc.) as a way to easily verify my restaurant items on my monthly credit card/financial statements.

yesterday, for the first time since i've done this in years, i was able to put a tip amount of:

good stuff. edit: even if i suck at math. :D

actually i think it's because usually when i do this i'm used to carrying the 1, so i automatically carry the 1 whether i need to or not.

i like it. their mac and cheese is one of the best i've had in eugene, although it's dense. burgers are okay, not as good as cornicopia. more fine dining food has been excellent - they make decent chicken dishes. their thai pizza is good too.

doing that for your bank statements... that's a clever idea :D

So what happens in a situation like this? Do they go by what you put in your total amount and add $.10 to your tip, or do they go by your given tip amount and remove $.10 from your overall total? I've always wondered this. I'm assuming the former.

I think they go by your total since that is what you wrote down. This is a very clever idea except that it is pretty easy to "spoof" totals. I mean all I would have to do is notice you put 33.33 and maybe just add 11.11 so if you just went by your bank account it would like legit. I read an article about a guy that used some crazy math depending on the day of the week etc etc...it was nuts. Some people are just so untrusting. :-D
