controversial issues meme

i haven't posted in a while, and the thing that igene and now james did is too interesting to pass up.

[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?

this question is dumb.

[02] Would you do meth if it was legalized?

probably at least once for the experience. the circumstances would have to be right.

[03] Abortion: for or against it?

i'm pro-choice, but i think that my opinion as a male doesn't matter nearly as much as the opinion of a female.

[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female president?

i think that if the world did fail with a female president, to put cause to the failure as "it's because she's a woman" is not looking at the circumstances properly and clouding what it is that she did as a *person* to cause the failure. And i find it unfortunate that such labels can be used as excuses to find quick scapegoats instead of looking more clearly at the facts.

[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?

i don't have a very strong opinion of it one way or the other, but i believe that i lean towards yes, but there's a whole system in my head for how it can and should be activated.

[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?

yes, particularly given the nature of how marijuana became illegal in the first place. It's also strikingly similar to how the UIGEA was able to make online poker "illegal" (essentially): a particular political stance that has behind the scenes has more to do with personal agenda and economic control than anything else and is presented to the public with incomplete and inaccurate facts. If we regulated it properly and taxed it, it would be a great revenue builder for the country, and then the illegal market for it would die and all the spending we currently do to try to get a handle on it could be diverted to more important things.

the idea that marijuana is illegal and beer is legal is pretty ludicrous to me.

[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?

strongly for. the idea of waiting for marriage belongs in a historical context as far as i'm concerned. To make sex out to be such a big deal turns it into a bigger deal than it actually is, which is one of the reason why sex sells so well. i also strongly oppose the idea that a female who likes sex but does it with multiple partners immediately gets a stigma of being a slut or being "easy". It's healthier for someone who knows that they're not ready for a committed monogamous relationship (if ever) and still wants to have sex to do so in a context that makes sense for them rather than put themselves into an unhealthy relationship. obviously people can be irresponsible about it, but people can be equally responsible about it, like anything else. i'd rather people go out and learn how to use a condom than learn how to use a gun.

[08] Do you believe in God?

i believe that spirtuality is used as a tool to help guide you in the decisions that you make in this life, and whatever context that helps you do that without impeding others' rights to do the same is fine. I do not personally believe that anyone on earth has a right to define who god or the gods are because our comprehension of God is akin to a bird's conception of a very clean window.

[09] Do you think same-sex marriage should be legalized?

i believe that homosexuals should have the ability to have the same legal rights as heteros who are married. Whether that's called "marriage" or not i can't form an opinion on as it is very split in the gay community and i can only have a vague sense of empathy concerning it having only vague homosexual tendencies.

[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?

i think that the system is put in place for a reason, but i also think that maybe the system needs to be reevaluated.

[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?

no, for all parties concerned.

[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?

my instinct is to say yes, but i have to think about it more. i think the problem is that i don't think the drinking age should be defined at all because the fact that a concept of "underage drinking" exists makes it enticing. if drinking at age x wasn't such a big deal, then it wouldn't be as much of a problem. There are plenty of people over 21 who are not sensible with their drinking. it's an arbitrary thing. Accidents can be attributed to one thing: a lack of responsibility. whether that's alcohol or marijuana or talking or texting on your mobile or whatever, people will always find a way to be irresponsible or responsible, and the general populace/media takes the exact opposite approach they should which is to amplify and create a Position based around those and thus maybe create unnecessary regulation, e.g. "the train crash might have been caused by the train operator sending a text message!" Please.

[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off? i think that the only way it can be done gracefully is within a particular grace period after the new president is elected.

[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?

no. see the south park episode "Best Friends Forever" for my position on this.

[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?

i believe in people facing consequences for actions that are suspect, but i think that spanking children for discipline can be a very hazy line. I'm not particularly fond of the idea of setting an early precedent that people should be respectful or follow the rules simply out of fear of punishment. That doesn't change the mindset, it just makes it so that the mindset can learn how to get away with it more sneakily.

[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?

i'd rather burn an american flag for no reason at all than for something as stupid as money.

[17] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?

The question is a little misleading. "better" in what sense? Better for who? me?

I think that both presidents would be very successful at fulfilling their role as a figurehead and pushing forth their goals as leader of the nation. For me personally, i would be rather afraid of the direction that this country would be taking if McCain/Palin ended up winning.

[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?

i'm making this entry public very deliberately; how i present myself to people in general is driven by a belief that all i need to be is myself and resultingly the people who i want to like me for myself will naturally graviate towards me. i've been through enough in my life to know that i am a good person regardless of how my beliefs may fall in or out of sync with other people's beliefs, so i don't find any shame in expressing them (to a point; there is such a thing as discretion). i would find it unfortunate if the differences in what my personal beliefs are would cause a rift in the relationships i have with individuals or groups because i would feel that they would be based on information that isn't relevant to the bonds that have already been formed.

The short version.
[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?

Clearly not.

[02] Would you do meth if it was legalized?

No, thanks.

[03] Abortion: for or against it?

Anti-abortion, pro-choice.

[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female president?

No.

[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?

...No... ish.

[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?

I don't "wish" it, but it does make sense. Cigarettes bother me just as much and they're legal, so why not.

[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?

I'm pro-sex at any time, but the term 'premarital sex' has to die. So many fucked up presuppositions.

[08] Do you believe in God?

Some days.

[09] Do you think same-sex marriage should be legalized?

VOTE NO ON PROP 8!!!!
http://noonprop8.com/home

[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?

Hispanics??? Someone in Texas wrote this question, I think.

[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?

No.

[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?

The alcohol age should be done away with. The driving age should be 18.

[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?

It was never a war, but we need to get the hell out ASAP.

[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?

No! Meddling fucks. Dignity in life, dignity in death.

[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?

No, but I believe in spanking other people's children.

[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?

Fuck yes. Naked, even.

[17] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?

Obama. Bam.

[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?

Anticipating, yes, afraid, no.

Re: The short version.
anti abortion pro choice is fairly accurate of my belief too.

i never thought about the idea that "premartial" was the issue with the sex word, but it makes a lot of sense. that sex is premarital or not doesn't in itself make it bad or good, so the term should just be thrown out.

Re: The short version.
I'm not sure we're saying the same thing. My issue with the term is this:
"premarital" privileges marriage as the proper arena for sex, making it seem as though marriage is the normative, inevitable course for every individual. Marriage isn't right for everyone. Nor is marriage legal for everyone in this country yet, so the term is not only narrow-minded and archaic but heterosexist and discriminatory.

[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?

Then what?

[02] Would you do meth if it was legalized?

This question is weird. As if it were to gauge a person if they were a druggy or not. But yes, I'd give it a shot.

[03] Abortion: for or against it?

I'm pretty much with Mendel on this one.

[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female president?

Who...wrote these questions? No. Well. If Palin were to be President...

[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?

there are more productive means to deal with people. but then that would border on the lines of inhumane.

[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?

yeah. cat williams says it the best. "weed is just a plant. if you happen to set it on fire, there are some side effects."

[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?

it's really up to the couple, not some random schmoe.

[08] Do you believe in God?

i don't know and i'm not seeking an answer either. i may be stepping on some people here, but religion is like having a guide on how to live life. i'd rather spend time figuring out shit on my own rather than spending time chasing something that'll never be 100% certain while i'm alive.

[09] Do you think same-sex marriage should be legalized?

yes. the laws are extremely outdated.

[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?

i dont mind but then i mind at the same time. if they want to seek a better life, then fine. that's all gravy. but i dont like the fact that they bring their life here. i mean, seriously, if your country is so great, why did you come here in the first place. leave your shit at home.

[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?

not unless she can support it. and i mean that on all levels.

[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?

please see Germany or Europe in general.

[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?

i'd like to know 50 years from now how classrooms will be discussing Bush's presidency.

[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?

This is tough. If i were a vegetable and dying, I would want to die so I wouldn't cause anybody anymore grief. I'll have to get back to this one later.

[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?

there is always an alternative method. like dangling them off balconies. IM KIDDING.

[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?

should this question be re-labeled as "are you a true patriot?"

[17] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?

Ron Paul? Actually i do not follow politics as closely as i should. im ashamed about it, but it's just how it is. i don't know enough of what's going on in the presidential race.

[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?

i dont really mind. this survey isnt a deep perspective of who i really am. but hey, be my guest if you want to pick me apart for a measly 18 questions that i answered. i am who i am. no less, no more.

[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?

The only proper method of disposing of a flag (if it's old, ripped, faded, etc) is burning it. Ceremonially, of course, but still.
