election map comparison

as live results for the election start to pull in, i think it says a lot if you look at the various election maps that exist out there.

These snaps were taken within a minute of each other:

Example 1: Google

Example 2: NPR

Example 3: CNN

i find CNN to be the most deceptive and the most annoying. it feels like if you had a map of all college football games that are happening on the same day and declared "winner" or "loser" based on the score at the moment even if team A just scored a field goal in the first five minutes of the game. But of course they do that because it's much more exciting to put up fake projected numbers and then change them up than it is to leave a lot of grey.

it's frustrating, but it doesn't surprise me much since CNN typically disgusts me. i think i'll just keep on watching the NPR map. their projections seem much more reasonable.

Ahh, CNN. They can call a race with 0% reporting in!

Hmm...CNN actually seemed to be the most conservative on calling states. ABC and one other network called PA very early (with 0% in), and CNN didn't call PA until about half an hour later.

I've found the Yahoo news flash map to be the best to use. It's using the AP data for calling states.

that's what google is using too. i like the NPR site a little bit better becaues it has both the map and the state listing on the same page. easy to see the summaries of the states without having to click on each one.

I tried npr but they don't appear to be handling the election load very well...site is hanging. Time to send them more dough!

Just an addendum; the AP also called PA really early (vs CNN)...so perhaps CNN was just showing the wrong graph.

npr has been hit and miss. the reason i found these three different election maps was during one of npr's hang times. it's working for me okay right now, just sometimes it needs a kick. :)

I think it's telling that Obama has won Iowa. I live in conservative white bread, right wing, republican land and Obama won. Woot!

I thought that it was funny how Fox News' online results completely broke except for the popular vote.
