Am I the only person who thinks the Fibonacci sequence is kind of boring? Yeah, it shows up in a few places, but that's kind of obvious. It's sort of a minimum-energy fulfillment of certain kinds of requirements. Of course it's going to show up in places that have those kinds of conditions.

At least the golden ratio is a mildly more interesting approach to take to the same data, though it's still obvious that it will show up everywhere, given its relation to the Fibonacci sequence.

i like it because of the golden ratio, and also because it has a pattern to it is simple enough to grasp but can still have a depth of complexity and versatility in how it's used creatively. for the piece i'm writing, it was a choice between that and prime numbers. i don't need anything much more complex than that because then it will limit the amount of flexibility i have in messing with it.
