i think i want to buy a new camera.

what i have now is a Canon Powershot A630. it's served me well for the past four years as a basic point and clicker with some flexibility for more depth and decent video capability for doing stupid little video projects. Unfortunately the preview screen has gotten fairly scratched up, i just fucked up the mini USB port, and it seems to be developing some problems with the rechargeable batteries i put in it, as in i fully charge the batteries (and just got new ones) and it says i need to put in new batteries after maybe one fifth of the amount of time i'm used to it doing, and sometimes the flash doesn't want to go off.

for my purposes i think i want something very similar in size and capability and for a similar price range of what i paid for this one ($200ish?). i haven't done the research yet, but i'll probably start looking into it in the next few weeks. if anyone has any suggestions, i'm all about it.

I suggest you pay less than $200 for a digital camera. No reason to pay that much these days unless you have very specific needs.

Canon has a good tradeup program that lets you buy various deeply discounted refurb models in exchange for your old canon camera (in any condition).

There's info about it on slickdeals.net and other similar places.

I like my Canon S90; if you want an ultra-compact camera that does really well in low-light/indoor conditions, I'd recommend it.
