mp3 encoding

the method in which an mp3 does its actual encoding is really frickin' annoying for me right now.

i'll probably get around to explaining why in about two months. lots to do, lots to do.

Hmm. I have a pretty good high-level understanding of the process, so I'm definitely curious as to why. Maybe I'll pry it out of you tomorrow or something.

it has to do with how the variable nature of frame sizes makes it so that the actual sample length of the original vs converted can be different enough to make gapless looping a pain in the ass.

Ah, that makes sense. I wonder if you could do something like drop to the shorter frame window in the region of the loop, but even then, you still only have a resolution of around 4ms.

i'm just doing the music, my brother is the one trying to deal with looping. he's figured out a way to get it to work (i'm talking about flash here), but it's annoying to have to do resort to such things.
