Balls of Fury (2007)

it's a goofy movie that doesn't serve any purpose other than being goofy. the plot is the very bland cliché plot of protag needs to train to become ultimate protag to prove he doesn't suck, get the girl, and defeat the bad guy. it tries to be overdramatic and ridiculous to make up for the fact that it's otherwise very bland, but even some of the overdramatic and ridiculous ends up feeling cliché, so i think overall the movie is a failure with some redemption value by having some great table tennis special effects and by christopher walken since it's, well, christopher walken.

the stupid thing is that i think the movie only needed some minor plot tweaking to make it a success rather than a failure. Watching it, you just get a sense that they decided to go with a particular plot formula and a particular comedy forumla and once those formulae were created, they didn't put any effort into finding little ways to break the formulae to give the film a more unique character. i haven't watched a whole lot of over the top comedy movies, but if you compare what this tried to do versus, say Dodgeball, the latter is much more compelling because it has more personality to the plot and to its quirky humor that this one fails to have, even if Christopher Walken is Chsitopher Walken.
