something the same and different

one of those surveys, but it's LJ specific.

1. Your LiveJournal "username" & what it means:

took me a little while to think of darknote. not from a meaning standpoint - it's not that complex. But i like the way it sounds. i still conceive of myself as a generally dark person.. both in my personality, and in my preference (night over day). And i'm a musician by trade. dark - note. ooooh.

2. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest) how well does your LiveJournal represent who you actually are?

I only know how to speak in my own voice. There are some things I don't talk about in my LJ, but does that lack of knowledge mean that it doesn't represent me? People who interact with me every day don't know about the part of me that's pretty depressed. I keep that well hidden. But am I showing them a false me? I don't think so. Even if they only get one aspect of me, they get Me. My LJ is no different.

3. How much about your life do you post to LiveJournal?

it depends on what you mean by "life." my journal is more of a thought journal than an event journal. I don't talk much about my day to day life because that's not really my Life. By the same token, no, i don't always talk about my Life on LJ either... whether because of lack of time or lack of motivation or because i just don't feel like it.

4. Is there anything you refuse to post about?

not refuse, but there are certainly things i don't want to.

5. On a scale of 1-10, how interesting do you think your own journal is to others?

i have no clue whatsoever. if we're going to go by the various review communities, I tend to score pretty low due to cosmetics. review_you might be different. Their judging system seems to be more fair. But i still anticipate getting a low score.

6. From who/how did you find out about LiveJournal?

my brother.

7. Has anyone ever joined lj because of you?

8. What proportion of your posts are friends only?

so far only one. don't plan on it often.

9. What is your favorite interest on LiveJournal?

you might as well ask me "what is your favourite word in the dictionary?"

10. Has anything on LiveJournal ever caused you to establish, re-think, or even change your belief or position on something?

the reason i started an lj in the first place was a means of channeling some of my inner thoughts, emotions, and conflicts into a more coherent form. By writing my thoughts down, I can understand them better, look at them full in the face, not shy away from them. Even if i decide to not write about something in my LJ, it tells me something else about myself that I need to hear even i don't want to. I don't make myself *completely* vulnerable, but i open myself up enough that I gain more perspective and answers, or at least more knowledge about how deeply hidden those answers are.

11. How often do you respond / comment on other people's journals?

depends. usually not a lot. I only like to post when i feel like i have something unique to say or contribute, or if i'm making my presence known when i hit "random".

12. Do you prefer to write in your journal or read other journals?

13. Have you ever had something mean said to you or been stalked, harassed, or got into an argument/flame war on LiveJournal (or did it to someone else)?

14. Have you ever banned someone from your journal?

didn't know it was possible.

15. Who is your favorite LiveJournal friend and why?

see question nine.

16. How many of your LJ friends have you actually met?

my brother. i've never met jenni, but she knows people that i know. i forget how i came across her journal... might have been another jackpot upon hitting random, but i get the impression it might have been more deliberate. Like... i was looking for people who had drum corps interest on the east coast or something. *shrug*

17. Of all of the people on LJ you know of, who is the most like you?

no one, but i don't knwo that many people on lj that well.

18. Why are you most likely to add someone to your friends list?

This is slightly contrary to what I say in my profile. so far i've lived by the philosophy that i'm not going to add someone to my friends list unless a) we've had some interaction first and they're receptive to me, and b) if they add me to theirs first. I don't know... i feel like if i were to randomly add myself to someone's friend list, I would be intruding, which i hate doing. Maybe i shouldn't make such a big deal out of it... i've got similar problems in real life. i suppose i could explain that further, but i need to sleep soon.

19. Do you automatically add friends to your journal if they add you first?

this kind of goes with question 18. no, i don't.

20. What is the most likely reason you wouldn't add someone to your friends list?

see 18. but let's try a bit more. Even if i think a person is interesting, that doesn't necessarily mean that they'll find *me* interesting. So does that make them my "friend"? Maybe the problem is that i take the definition too literally on my own side. Also, there's the idea that if people do get added, they get to know me more, and i'm wary of that because of my perceived long-term destructive nature. I think that's why I presented my profile the way I did... so that maybe I can change this philosophy and feel free to add people to my friends list without fear of intrusion. We'll see if it works or not.

21. Is your "significant other" on LiveJournal?

not technically.

22. Have you ever wanted to meet someone on LJ?

yeah, that'd be fun.
