Las Vegas

there are these odd adverts that appear usually on ESPN promoting Las Vegas. Their slogan is "What happens here stays here."

The most recent one i've seen is this old couple that are in this lavish hotel. They're clearly ready to go out and party like there's no tomorrow. The man is finshing putting together his outfit, while the woman is in this elegant long red dress talking on the phone with her daughter or son, saying things like, "oh, we're exhausted. He's already in bed.", and the like. After convincing her child that they're just going to make it an early night, she hangs up the phone, the couple giggle at each other and then practically run off-screen towards the door.

If you've seen the other Las Vegas adverts, this one isn't all that special. It's cute like the other ones are. But what makes this one stick out is the music they have going on in the background. first off, they made a deliberate effort to make the music not seem like background to the advert, but background to the hotel room... it sounds like it's muffled and coming from another room. Secondly, the music that they have playing is "Funky Cold Medina" by Tone Loc.

Wow. Who remembers *that* guy?

Seems like there were a lot of rap artists back then that were either one hit or two hit wonders. Tone Loc, MC Young, Sir Mix-a-Lot, House of Pain to a degree. Rap was a lot different back then, and i kind of miss it. Not that there isn't good rap out there now, but every time i watch Law and Order: SUV and i see Ice-T, i think "god damn, he's a talented actor. And god damn, he was a really good rap artists and heavy metal lead singer. I hope he's still writing music."

Wow. that ended in a different direction than i thought it would. Better quit while i'm... ahead? yeah. that's it. ahead.
