more lost.

so i'm dredging my way through season 2 of Lost. While there's stuff in it that falls into the "not bad" category, there's still a great deal that falls into the "you're joking, right?" category.

but a funny thought occured to me as i was watching episode 7:

So somewhere in the beginning of season 2, we discover that the tail end of the plane crashed on the other side of the island and there were 20ish survivors on that side. we get the aftermath of that to start with from the perspective of the season 1 folks who stumble upon them.

Then, the writers use the entire episode 7 as a flashback episode to the "tail survivors" story. It starts with day 1 when they crashed, and then throughout the episode, it shows flashes of significant events that happened on certain days of the 40ish days that occupied the entire sesaon 1 on the other side of the island. Sometimes those events would be a single ten to twenty second scene before moving on to the next day. "Day 6". Survivors holding a memorial service. brief shots of emotional faces. End scene.

And the more i watched it, the more funny it was because two questions popped into my head::

1. Why couldn't they have done season 1 like this? cut out all of the annoying shit.

2. Why *didn't* they approach this like they did season 1?

If you ask me, they should have done one of two things: a) just nix episode 7 completely. It gave too many answers too quickly, which is what i thought they were trying to avoid by having all of this "oooooh! mystery!", or b) take a majority of season 2 to develop the other survivors like they did in season 1.

but of course they're not going to do that because then all of the "regular" characters wouldn't have much to do during season 2. they need to earn their big bucks.

but i would have preferred that because it would have been fresher and i wouldn't have to watch annoying character development turn into more asinine and flat character development that makes me roll my eyes every ten minutes or so.

so yeah. i think i'm done after sesaon 2. someone who has the patience to watch the rest of the show can tell me what they mystery of the island ends up being, because that's all i care about at this point and it's not worth it to get there through all of the other crap to get there.

good to know i won't be missing much.

i kind of want a highlight reel, like they do for sports. that way for things like baseball, i can just see the important parts and not have to be bored by the actual game.

There has been ONE decent episode in season 3. The rest of the episodes are by far the worst of any season.
