natto.

i've been downloading and watching a lot of iron chef lately, both the classic japanese one and the new "iron chef america".

a recent battle from the classic japanese show featured [Natto]. I downloaded it because i had never heard of it before - i thought maybe it was some sort of exotic fish, so i was surprised when Kaga unveiled the ingredient.

Watching the two chefs work with the stuff was fascinating and makes me want to try it, if only once, to see what it tastes like, both in its simplest state and then maybe a recipe that incorporates it with more subtlety. I wonder if it's available in asian food stores around here.

I kinda wanted to die when the Hostel owner in Japan made me try it... nothing like eating moldy beans o_o

Wasn't too horrible.. but I don't think I'll voluntarily have it again..

sunrise most likely has it. if not, you should check out uwajimaya when you head up for the hockey game. :)

natto is an acquired taste or so i'm told.
