omg fb.

facebook failed today.

fb rolled out another "we need to add more g+ functionality to our site so that people don't leave!" and it's counterintuitive for the likes of me. One of my Tulane students took some pictures at our last football game. One of them is of me, and it's a great photo. He tagged me in the photo. This would seem normal.

The tagging, however, got associated with a "check-in", as in he used the Superdome as the check-in location for the photo being tagged, and as a result, fb put it into a new section of my profile called "Needs Review." So the tag doesn't show up for other people because it needs to be approved by me.

When i tried to say "approve", fb popped up a window that basically said, "right now you have your privacy settings set so that other people aren't allowed to check you into places. If you enable this functionality, you won't have this problem in the future. Do you want to enable this?"

No, facebook, i don't want to enable this. I have a personal philosophical issue against the concept of check-ins or the use of location for every single thing that i do on a social media site. So i clicked "not now" under the assumption that by doing so, this one would go through because i said, "approve" and that i would have the ability to deal with this issue on a case-by-case basis.

But no, apparently, it's an all or nothing deal. The fact that i am not allowing other people to check me in overturned my "approve" decision, so now the photo is still "needs review" (you read that right), and cannot have me tagged in the photo in a way that the public can see it.

i would like the nearest blunt object now so i can inflict multiple visible bruises to fb's face.

I loathe Facebook. If I didn't feel like I needed it to connect my band with its fans, I would dump it in a heartbeat. Bleagh.

Just another reason never to take these things seriously. It makes the inevitable shittiness amusing, not annoying.
